A public school teacher and proud father of two homeschooled children, Lucius Irvin recently won "Teacher of the Year." Seeking a solution to the rising number out of school suspensions Lucius began exploring social/emotional support through mindfulness. He won a $10,000 grant through the Great Schools Partnership to get 16 teachers trained in mindfulness, provide workshops for parents and to complete research with the University of Tennessee on the effectiveness of mindfulness in the classroom. He is finishing a year-long mindfulness certification with Mindful Schools this summer. Lucius is continuing his work with young people and families through providing mindfulness programs.
